Caregiver Expo 2006
Family Caregiver Expo - Washington, D.C. July 29th-30th, 2006
2005 Was a Success
Based on an overwhelming response from the public for the Expo’s premiere event, the ABC 7 Family Health & Caregiver Expo will return to the Washington Convention Center on July 29th-30th, 2006. The 2006 Expo will again focus on the important role of family caregiving, with an added emphasis on general health matters.
Over 50 million Americans are faced with the challenge of caring for a chronically ill, disabled, or aged family member or friend. In the Washington, DC area, an estimated 40-45% of adults across all income levels and regions are caregivers. This increasing group needs help through educational assistance, products and services, medical, financial resources and more.

Increasingly, medication therapy plays a growing role in addressing the health needs of family members, elderly parents and others cared for at home by family caregivers. More and more often, family caregivers cite community pharmacists as one of their most trusted resources for advice and guidance on proper medication use and other issues.

Recognizing the importance of reaching out to this large portion of the community, WJLA-TV, the ABC television affiliate in Washington, D.C., and its sister station NewsChannel 8, were proud to partner with the National Association of Chain Drug Stores for the premier of the ABC 7 Family Health & Caregiver Expo, held in May 2005, at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center.

This unique, FREE to the community event was the first of its kind in the country. It provided an excellent opportunity to learn about the many products, services and resources available to caregivers in the community. Expo exhibitors included community pharmacies, financial services, hospice, home remodeling, auto conversion, food and nutrition services and a host of other services to assist caregivers.

Over two days, the Expo attracted nearly 10,000 people and included seven major pavilion sponsors. These sponsors were prominently featured at the expo and offered:

  • Free medical screenings
  • Product sampling opportunities
  • Educational seminars
  • Over 100 additional exhibitors and educational speakers provided information about:

  • New home products and services
  • Assisted living and healthcare facilities
  • Innovative drugs and medications
  • Financial planning
  • Community pharmacists' role in family caregiving
  • And much more!
